Description
The first Johannesburg Transport Expo will be staged at the Johan-nesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, from March 18-21 next year as a trade only show. It will cater for the full spectrum of the transport and re-lated industries and will be co-located with the first Automechanika South Africa exhibition for the automotive aftermarket. Both events are being organised by Dogan Trading, a joint venture between Jo-hannesburg Expo Centre and SA Show Services.
The categories that will be catered for at the Johannesburg Transport Expo 2009 are: trucks, buses, trailers, body-builders, materials han-dling, logistics, industry components, parts and accessories as well as service providers to the industry, including finance and insurance.
The Johannesburg Transport Expo 2009 will have particular rele-vance to the local and national transport solutions for World Cup 2010 and exhibits of these products and systems will be a focal point of the event. For this reason the exhibition in 2009 will encompass all the transport sectors of road, rail, air and sea as they are all relevant to the 2010 project. Going forward it will focus on road transport, logis-tics and materials handling.
Government, provincial and parastatal expenditure on various as-pects of upgrading transport facilities and road networks over the next five years will amount to more than R150-billion, with much of this spend linked directly to 2010.
This makes the timing of the Johannesburg Transport Expo in March next year ideal for a trade event with multi-channel marketing and promotional opportunities offering one-on-one contact with targeted buyers and sellers across the entire transport and related sectors.
Dogan chairman Andrew Mthembu says the decision to stage the Jo-hannesburg Transport Expo alongside the international Autome-chanika SA exhibition is that there are many synergies between the two trade-only events – one being an exhibition aimed mainly at the automotive aftermarket and the other targeting the many facets of the transport industry not catered for by Automechanika.
“Following the announcement of Automechanika SA in April we have received many requests from the transport industry fraternity to cater for the needs of them and their customers as only a few aspects of the overall transport industry are included under the Automechanika umbrella,” added Philip Otto, Show Director.
“Although there have been a number of trade shows for the trucking and related industries in various parts of South Africa the past, none of them have lasted. We are now planning to arrange bi-annual Jo-hannesburg Transport Expos in the alternate years to the Johannes-burg International Motor Show, which has some representation from the trucking industry.
“We believe that the association with the well known Automechanika brand will be very beneficial for the transport exhibition and will broaden the appeal of the event. In fact we see the period between March 16 and 21 being developed as the Gauteng Automotive Week, with a number of other industry-related events taking place in Johan-nesburg during this time,” explained the show director.
The Johannesburg Transport Expo 2009 will be ideally situated at Expo Centre, as the adjacent Nasrec precinct forms the heart of planning for the 2010 World Cup. Not only does the adjoining Soccer City house the FIFA headquarters for the event, but Expo Centre has also been awarded the contract to serve as the base for the Interna-tional Broadcast and Media Centre with massive infrastructure up-grades. These will include the development of a four-star hotel and an apartment complex on the Expo Centre site.
