A great deal of reconstruction is taking place in the surrounding areas which included an upgrade of the Pat Mbatha motorway. The launch kickstarted at the Johannesburg Expo Centre providing members of government a central access point to meet and proceed to opening of the upgrade.
The reconstruction took place along the Soweto highway from the N1 highway bridge to the M1 highway bridge. The highway will be sufficient for public transport and reduce the congestion.
